Pets and Picnics, Holidays and Special Events

When you share your home with your pet there is something you need to be aware of: pets get into EVERYTHING! From chocolate to decorations and much more. Keeping your pets safe is an important aspect of pet ownership. Here are some ways to keep your furry friends safe during the holidays, picnics, parties and more:

  1. Loud noises: Many pets are sensitive to loud noises. Be aware of what is going on around you. If fireworks are going off near your home keep your pet inside not only for their comfort but to avoid them being lost or injured.

  2. Food: Pets can’t tolerate the same foods that humans do. Make sure to keep these top 10 pet hazards out of reach:

    • Chocolate

    • Grapes/raisins

    • Avocado

    • Onions

    • Macadamia nuts

    • Milk

    • Cheese

    • Apple Cores

    • Yeast Breads

    • Garlic

  3. Alcohol: Our furry friends can not process alcoholic substances. Make sure empty bottles are thrown away properly. The ingredients may entice your pet to have a taste!

  4. Safety: Did you know that most pets go missing during a party or holiday? Make sure to keep them confined if you will have a lot of company coming and going. They may not notice a cat or dog sneaking past them.

  5. Microchip: It is important to not only microchip your pet but keep their tag up to date with a current description, photo, and contact information.
